Electricity price hike to increase consumer bills in October

Electricity consumers across Pakistan are set to face higher bills in October after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved an increase in the price by Rs1.11 per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism.

Nepra has issued a notification confirming that the increase is based on the fuel price adjustment for August and will remain applicable for one month.

The additional amount will be reflected in the October electricity bills of consumers across the country, including those in Karachi.

According to sources, the August fuel price adjustment is expected to place an additional financial burden of around Rs19bn on electricity consumers.

The Rs1.11-per-unit increase will be collected from eligible consumers as part of the adjustment.

The increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, according to Nepra’s notification.

Other electricity consumers, however, will have to pay the additional amount in their October bills.

The latest increase comes as part of the monthly fuel price adjustment process, under which electricity tariffs are revised to account for changes in fuel costs used in power generation.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA previously, electricity prices were increased by 52 paise per unit in the country under the quarterly adjustment.

This increase imposed an additional burden of Rs12.67 billion on consumers.

According to the media reports, electricity consumers have to make additional payments in September, October and November.

Will the increase apply to K-Electric consumers?

NEPRA says that the increase will not apply to lifeline consumers. Additionally, the increase of 52 paise per unit will also apply to K-Electric consumers.

It should be noted that electricity was increased by 75 paise per unit for the whole country in August.

The increase was made in the form of the monthly adjustment for June 2026, which was also applied to K-Electric consumers. The increase was applied to the bills of August.
