The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), on Wednesday, increased electricity prices by 52 paise per unit in the country under the quarterly adjustment.
What is the electricity price in Pakistan?
According to a notification issued by NEPRA, electricity has been increased by 52 paise per unit in the country under the quarterly adjustment.
This increase will impose an additional burden of Rs12.67 billion on consumers.
Electricity consumers will have to make additional payments in September, October and November.
Will the increase apply to K-Electric consumers?
NEPRA says that the increase will not apply to lifeline consumers. Additionally, the increase of 52 paise per unit will also apply to K-Electric consumers.
It should be noted that electricity was increased by 75 paise per unit for the whole country in August.
The increase was made in the form of the monthly adjustment for June 2026, which was also applied to K-Electric consumers. The increase was applied to the bills of August.
Previously, NEPRA decided to increase the electricity price by Rs1 per unit.
Pakistan’s electricity distribution companies have asked NEPRA to approve an additional financial burden of more than Rs23 billion on consumers for the next three months.
During the hearing, chaired by the NEPRA chairman, distribution companies sought a total adjustment of Rs49.74 billion under the second-quarter adjustment for the current financial year.
Unscheduled load shedding by K-Electric
NEPRA ordered K-Electric to stop unscheduled and unnecessary load shedding and ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers.
The regulatory authority said that K-Electric must immediately stop cutting power to entire feeders on the basis of electricity losses or low bill recovery.
Nepra said load shedding carried out on the basis of line losses and recovery was illegal.
