The Pakistan cricket team is set to play a Test match against England in May next year, with the fixture being viewed as part of England’s preparations for the Ashes series.
According to foreign media reports, the proposed Test match has been scheduled during the Indian Premier League (IPL), a period when several England players have previously stepped away from Test cricket to participate in the tournament.
Reports further stated that Pakistan is scheduled to tour England for a white-ball series in 2027, while England also has an available Test window before the Ashes.
The media also noted that England’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) is expected to clash with the Olympic Games, as a Test series between England and the West Indies is currently scheduled during the Olympics.
A three-match Test series between England and the West Indies is reportedly planned for 2028, while the Olympic Games are set to take place from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
Reports added that England’s leading all-format players could miss the home Test series because they were participating in the Olympics.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has begun the search for a batting coach for the national team and has issued an advertisement in this regard. According to the advertisement, it is mandatory for candidates to hold a Level 2 coaching certification.
Applicants are also required to have at least five years of experience in batting coaching, and interested candidates can submit their applications by June 7.
Sources say the new batting coach will be appointed for the white-ball team. Currently, Hanif Malik is serving as the batting coach of the Pakistan white-ball side.
Reports suggest that Malik’s final assignment in the role will be the series against Australia. Sources further added that he is currently serving his notice period, having decided to step down from the position a few weeks ago.
