Sindh govt distributes EV scooters to women

The government of Sindh on Friday distributed electric vehicle (EV) scooters among the women.

A ceremony was held in Sukkur on April 17 to distribute free electric scooters to women.

Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said that Sindh was the first province in Pakistan to introduce EV buses and a pink bus service with female drivers and conductors.

He added that the concept of female drivers and conductors was not introduced in any other country earlier.

Sharjeel Memon said that the government of Sindh is providing free EV scooters to women along with helmets, licenses, and training, which is all free of cost.

Earlier in the province, there were only 150 women with motorbike licenses, but now there are more than 20,000 license applications by women across the province.

The provincial minister stated that women’s empowerment has always been the vision of the Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and the first lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.

Memon said, “President Zardari started the Benazir Income Support Program. He said today, the IMF and the World Bank praise this program.” 

He further added, “Sindh government is building houses for 2.1 million families free of cost under the housing project.”
