Taj Afridi dies in accident near Swabi interchange

Former senator Taj Afridi lost his life in a road accident on the M-1 Motorway near the Colonel Sher Khan Interchange in Swabi, officials said.

As per details, Motorway Police reached the scene immediately after receiving reports of the crash.

Taj Afridi died in the accident, while his driver sustained minor injuries. The former senator was travelling from Islamabad to Peshawar when the incident occurred.

Initial reports suggest that the accident was caused by a mechanical fault in the vehicle. Further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Earlier, a tourist van caught fire on the Murree Expressway on Wednesday, in which atleast six people have died, while eight have been burnt, according to DPO Murree.

The injured have been shifted to PIMS hospital. The Hi Ace van was on bound to Murree from Islamabad.

Officials said the vehicle was engulfed in flames, prompting an immediate emergency response. Personnel from the motorway police and the Murree administration rushed to the scene and launched rescue and relief operations.

According to motorway police spokesperson, said the fire has been brought under control and extinguished. Rescue teams are continuing efforts at the site while assessing the situation and determining the number of people affected.

According to the police, the van crashed into the side guard due to over speeding. Due to the crash the van’s engine caught fire and the doors became locked making the passengers unable to come out.
