Federal govt unveils National Immigration Policy to empower overseas workers

The federal government has unveiled the National Immigration Policy 2026, reaffirming its commitment to protecting and empowering Pakistanis seeking opportunities abroad.

The new policy focuses on promoting safe, orderly and dignified migration, improving workforce skills, and safeguarding the rights of Pakistani migrants in the global labour market.

Announcing the policy in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said it represents a renewed national commitment to every Pakistani going abroad.

The minister said the global labour market is changing rapidly, with growing competition for skilled workers worldwide. Therefore, Pakistan must align its workforce with future demands. He added that the new policy would play a significant role in preparing Pakistani workers according to international standards.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain noted that around 12 million Pakistanis are currently living in different countries across the world. He said they are not only ambassadors of Pakistan but also make valuable contributions to the country’s economy.

He highlighted that overseas Pakistanis sent record remittances of more than $41 billion during the last fiscal year, describing these inflows as vital for the national economy.

The federal minister expressed the government’s resolve to effectively implement the policy, protect the rights of overseas Pakistanis, develop a skilled workforce, and ensure that the country fully benefits from global employment opportunities.

He said the policy reflects the government’s national commitment to every Pakistani who travels abroad in search of better opportunities, strives to build a brighter future, and contributes to the country’s economic development.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain stated that the policy focuses on equipping Pakistani workers with market-relevant skills while ensuring they receive the protection and support needed to compete in the rapidly changing global labour market. He added that the successful implementation of the policy would require strong coordination among all stakeholders, including federal and provincial governments.
