Internet services in the Mirpur division of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have started to be restored on Thursday, after 45 days of suspension.
The internet services had recently been suspended in several districts of Azad Kashmir. Internet services have remained suspended across AJK since June 5 under government orders issued in the wake of a law and order situation.
Internet services in AJK
Recently, Pakistan Peoples Party Azad Jammu and Kashmir (PPP AJK) President Chaudhry Muhammad Yaseen wrote a letter to Azad Jammu and Kashmir Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal to restore internet services across the region without delay.
In the letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, Yaseen said that the ongoing internet shutdown was affecting the election campaign.
He said that the disruption was creating problems for political parties, election candidates, and voters.
Yaseen also warned that the suspension of internet services could affect the transparency of the election process.
He further added that stable internet access is important so voters can receive timely and accurate information about election procedures and campaign activities.
He also said that it is the Election Commission’s responsibility to make sure voters have access to information.
Further, he urged the commission to take immediate steps to restore internet services so election campaigns can continue without interruption.
He also asked the Election Commission to raise the issue with the relevant authorities as soon as possible.
He said internet access is necessary to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections in AJK.
Internet services restored in Pakistan
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed the full restoration of internet services without any disruption across Pakistan.
PTA on Friday confirmed that internet services are continuing without interruption across Pakistan after a fault in the SEA-ME-WE 5 (SMW5) international submarine cable system was repaired.
