Internet services were disrupted in several cities across Pakistan on Thursday. Many users are reporting slow speeds and connectivity issues.

According to the internet monitoring platform Downdetector, users in multiple cities experienced internet outages and slow service.

As per Downdetector, Internet services like Nayatel and PTCL are being reported for problems.

The disruption caused problems for people working online, businesses, and other internet users.

Reports on Downdetector showed that major cities, including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, were among the affected areas. The reason behind the disruption has not yet been confirmed as of now.

So far, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not issued any official statement on the issue.

No major internet service provider has also explained the cause of the disruption.

Meanwhile, many users took to X, formerly Twitter, to complain about slow internet speeds and connectivity problems.

Earlier today, online graphic design platform Canva appeared to be experiencing technical issues. Users in Pakistan and several other countries reported problems uploading images.

According to user reports and the outage tracking website Downdetector, the issue began affecting users who were attempting to upload new images to the platform.

Users trying to upload files are receiving an error message that reads: “We were unable to upload ‘image.png’. You might be logged out, offline, or Canva’s servers are unreachable.

Previous temporary internet disruptions

Previously, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced a major upgrade of its network infrastructure and digital services.

It was done to help improve stability, reliability, security, and overall performance.

According to the authority, the upgrade was scheduled to take place from 5:00 pm on June 24, 2026, to 6:00 AM on June 25, 2026.

During this period, users were warned that they might experience brief service interruptions related to the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). It is used to register mobile devices online.

PTA said that its technical teams were working to minimise the effect on users. And to restore all services as quickly as possible during the upgrade.
