CDF Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has emerged as a central figure in regional diplomacy during his high-level visit to Iran, where he held important meetings aimed at easing tensions and promoting dialogue.
On April 16 in Tehran, Field Marshal Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where the Iranian leadership warmly welcomed the Pakistani army chief. Both sides discussed regional developments, including ongoing US-Iran diplomatic engagements, for stability in the region.
The meeting was also attended by Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, along with senior Iranian officials, while Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was part of the visiting delegation.
According to The Guardian, Field Marshal Munir’s visit has been viewed as part of Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role, with efforts focused on facilitating dialogue between Tehran and Washington. He presented proposals aimed at advancing a new framework for talks, following earlier unsuccessful negotiations.
During the visit, Iranian media also presented a rare cultural gesture, releasing a special welcome song titled “Khush Aamdeed ae Sipah Salar Mohtaram, Khush Aamadi be Tehran”, performed by Iranian artist Reza Bahrami in honour of Field Marshal Asim Munir
Field Marshal Munir is playing a prominent role in efforts to reduce tensions and encourage peaceful diplomatic engagement between US and Iran.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir landed in Iran on April 15, 2026, to pursue the peace talks that were started in Islamabad on April 12.
The purpose of the Tehran visit by the Pakistani delegation was to address the Iranian leadership about the message by the US, to arrange another round of peace talks in Islamabad.
Earlier, the Army Chief also met FM Abbas Araghchi, and the Iranian Parliament Speaker, Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf.
He spoke to them about the latest measures taken by the Pakistani government to prevent further escalation between the two states.
Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian top commander
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Syed Asim Munir, also met with the Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia central headquarters, Major General Ali Abdollahi, on Thursday.
The Iranian commander said, “Iran’s Armed Forces are totally prepared for all-out defence of the country against aggressors, nearly 50 days after a US-Israeli military coalition waged an unprovoked war of aggression against the Islamic Republic.”
Ali Abdollahi further clarified to the Pakistani Chief that all the equipment used by the Iranian forces in this war was domestically-manufactured by Iranian youth, and today no one doubts that in the event of any evil move by the enemy, the armed forces are ready for all-out defence.
