A major fire broke out at a garment factory warehouse in Karachi’s SITE Metroville area on Monday (today).

Reportedly, the fire started at a factory located on Plot No. 14-A and later became more intense.

Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the location to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading.

The incident raised concerns about safety at industrial buildings in the area.

According to Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan, the fire started on the third floor of the building.

Factory management had reportedly converted the third floor into a warehouse.

At least four fire engines and three Rescue 1122 vehicles were deployed to fight the fire.

A snorkel from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Fire Brigade also reached the location to support the operation.

Fire officials said two water bowsers were helping firefighters control the blaze.

They also revealed that another fire had broken out at the same location a few days earlier.

Emergency declared at Karachi water hydrants

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) announced emergency arrangements to ensure firefighters received enough water.

According to a KWSC spokesperson, an emergency was declared at the NIPA and Sakhi Hassan hydrants following a request from the fire brigade.

KWSC Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddique also directed officials to activate emergency arrangements at the Crush Plant hydrant.

Water tankers were immediately sent to the affected area to support the firefighting operation.

The spokesperson said the hydrant cell’s in-charge remained in contact with fire and rescue teams.

A focal person appointed by the KWSC chief executive was also supervising the water supply arrangements.

The corporation said it was providing full support to emergency workers.

Firefighters continued their efforts to bring the flames under control.
