The first winter rain and hailstorms have intensified the cold in Murree, Kotli Sattian and Kahuta, with strong, chilly winds further lowering temperatures. Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and hail was reported in Murree, where the temperature dropped to 8°C. More rainfall is forecast in Murree and other hilly areas over the next 24 hours.

According to the Meteorological Department, rain is expected in upper and central parts of Punjab and Azad Kashmir within the next two to four hours. Thunderstorms and rain are also forecast in Jhelum, Khushab, Sargodha, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Kotli, with strong winds possible in some areas.

Following the heavy rainfall, the Murree district administration has issued an alert, warning of possible flash flooding in streams and water channels, as well as an increased risk of landslides in hilly areas. Residents and tourists have been advised to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel and follow official instructions. Strong winds and heavy rain have also disrupted electricity supplies in several parts of Murree.

Deputy Commissioner Murree has directed the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), Rescue 1122, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) and other relevant departments to remain on high alert and ensure an immediate response to any emergency.

The departments have been instructed to provide timely assistance to residents and tourists and take prompt measures to restore essential services in affected areas. The latest weather system is expected to intensify the cold in Murree and surrounding areas. Tourists planning to visit the hill stations have been urged to check weather updates, drive carefully on slippery roads and comply with safety advisories issued by the district administration.
