Senior Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan leader and former deputy emir Hafiz Muhammad Idrees passed away on Monday after a serious illness.
He had reportedly been unwell for the past several weeks. His funeral prayer arrangements have not yet been announced.
Jamaat-e-Islami leaders express grief
Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman expressed grief over the death of the senior leader. He also paid tribute to his religious, political and organisational services.
Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch, Dr Farid Ahmad Piracha and other central and provincial leaders also expressed their condolences.
They prayed for Hafiz Muhammad Idrees and offered their sympathies to his family.
Hafiz Muhammad Idrees held key positions
Hafiz Muhammad Idrees was a prominent figure in Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. He remained associated with the organisation for many years. During this time, he held several senior positions.
He served as deputy emir of Jamaat-e-Islami for a long period. He also served as the party’s central Qayyim, or Secretary General. In addition, he served as Emir of Jamaat-e-Islami Punjab.
In an earlier interview, Idrees said he went to Kenya in January 1974. There, he worked as director of the Islamic Foundation in Nairobi.
He returned to Pakistan in November 1985. Later, he became the party’s central deputy secretary general. He was appointed Punjab emir in 1990. In 2003, he became a deputy emir of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Apart from his political and organisational work, Hafiz Muhammad Idrees was also an Islamic scholar, speaker and author.
He wrote several books and other works. His writings covered subjects such as the Quran, Hadith and Seerah.
He also delivered religious and intellectual lectures. In addition, he remained involved in educational and religious activities.
Hafiz Muhammad Idrees was also associated with Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba.
