The federal government is considering expanding the scope of its Fuel Relief Scheme to provide financial assistance to more citizens amid rising petrol prices.

According to details, the government is reviewing a proposal to increase the number of beneficiaries from the existing 12.7 million to 20 million, potentially extending relief to millions of additional people.

Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah said the proposal to expand the petrol relief programme was under consideration. However, no final decision has been taken, nor has an implementation date been announced.

Under the existing scheme, eligible motorcyclists, three-wheeler users and owners of vehicles with engine capacities below 800cc can receive petrol subsidies of up to Rs100 per litre.

The government is examining different options to expand the programme to reduce the financial burden on citizens facing rising transportation costs.

If approved, the proposed expansion would allow millions more people to benefit from the scheme. However, details regarding the revised relief amount, eligibility criteria and registration process have not yet been announced.

The existing rules and regulations will remain in place until the government makes an official announcement regarding any changes to the scheme.
