A passenger travelling from Pakistan to Canada was fined CAD 1,350 (approximately PKR 266,998) for carrying goat trotters (siri paye), desi ghee and chicken in luggage at the Canadian airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said the passenger failed to declare the food items upon arrival in the country.

CBSA is the federal law enforcement agency responsible for border control, customs services, and immigration enforcement in Canada.

According to the CBSA website, travellers are prohibited from bringing several food and agricultural products into Canada from abroad without meeting specific requirements. It also manages entry rules, deports inadmissible individuals, and investigates immigration fraud.

These include raw and cooked meat, fruits, vegetables and milk. Restrictions also apply to certain homemade food products, plant- and wood-based items, household plants, live animals, including pets, and fishing bait.

Other restricted items include firewood, plant cuttings, seeds and hiking footwear carrying soil or dirt. However, you can bring many dry, commercially packaged, and shelf-stable food items from Pakistan into Canada, provided they stay within personal limits and are declared to the Canada Border Services Agency.

However, some food and agricultural products may be allowed into Canada if travellers provide the required documentation or complete the necessary registration procedures.
