The Government has announced new fees for citizens applying for e-passports as it accelerates the transition from traditional passports to a modern digital passport system.
The new e-passport features an embedded electronic chip that securely stores the holder’s biometric and personal information. The system has been developed in line with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), aiming to improve security and streamline international travel procedures.
The e-passport will feature an NFC chip, laser engraving, and infrared and ultraviolet security features, making the identification and verification process at airports more secure and efficient.
The new e-passport meets international standards, allowing Pakistani travellers to use e-gate facilities at airports around the world and avoid lengthy immigration queues.
The government has also made the passport fee system completely online and cashless by ending cash collection at passport offices nationwide. Citizens will no longer need to visit offices for passport-related payments.
The government has issued new e-passport fee schedules for 2026. According to the new rates, the normal fee for a 36-page, 5-year e-passport is Rs 9,000, while the urgent fee is Rs 15,000. For a 10-year e-passport, the normal fee is Rs 13,500, and the urgent fee is Rs 22,500.
For a 72-page, 5-year e-passport, the normal fee is Rs 16,500, while the urgent fee is Rs 27,000. For a 10-year e-passport, the normal fee is Rs 24,750, and the urgent fee is Rs 40,500.
According to authorities, the introduction of e-passports will enhance security, strengthen border management, and provide modern, faster travel facilities for Pakistani citizens, particularly those living abroad.
