Punjab Education Minister takes notice of schools violating summer camp rules

Summer vacations announced in AJK educational institutes

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has instructed the authorities to strictly implement the government approved summer camp guidelines province wide and has noted that some private schools are violating the guidelines.

The Minister told education authorities to keep a close eye on schools and act on those that violate the summer camp rules. Summer camps will be allowed Monday to Thursday from 7:00 am to 10:00 am, but are limited to a maximum of one month in total, he said. Any extension of camp timings beyond the approved schedule will not be allowed.

The participation in summer camps should be optional, Rana Sikandar Hayat added, saying students should not be enrolled without permission from their parents. He urged parents to lodge a complaint in the complaint cell concerned to act immediately if complaints are made.

Previously, the Punjab School Education Department had also given permission to both private and public schools to conduct summer camps during the summer holidays from June 1 to June 30. The official guidelines will only allow camps to run on weekdays from Monday to Thursday, with Friday continuing to be a weekly holiday.

The department has made it clear that private schools cannot charge any additional fee for summer camp activities. Similarly, government schools and teachers are prohibited from collecting tuition fees from participating students.

Schools have also been instructed to conduct all activities indoors and ensure the availability of essential facilities, including clean drinking water, proper seating arrangements, fans, electricity backup, cleanliness and first aid kits. Students attending the camps are exempt from wearing school uniforms and may wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing.

Officials said the guidelines are aimed at providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students during the summer break while protecting them from extreme weather conditions.
