With the confirmation of Grand Theft Auto 6 set for a launch on November 19, 2026, Rockstar Games has now hinted that the current edition of GTA Online still has at least one major event remaining.
In a recent blog post discussing Nightclub income bonuses, Rockstar shared, “There’s also plenty more to look forward to in GTA Online, including a variety of special events and celebrations, along with an exciting new update this summer.”
Since nearly the inception of GTA Online, Rockstar has maintained a consistent schedule of two updates per year: one during the summer (usually in June or July) and another in December. The summer update has historically introduced some of the most exceptional improvements to the mode.
New in the series, GTA 6 is set to debut in November on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and the most common question among fans is, “Is this the final major update?”
One user on X shared, “After 13 years and nearly 50 content updates, the end is almost here. Hopefully, they send this game off with a bang.”
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has previously indicated that GTA Online may continue to operate even after the release of GTA 6, referencing the company’s approach with NBA 2K Online in China.
When NBA 2K Online 2 was launched in 2017, the original version from 2012 remained active, with both versions available at the same time.
“We support our properties when consumers are engaged with those titles,” Zelnick stated to IGN, further noting that Take-Two has demonstrated a willingness to support legacy titles when a community desires to remain involved with them.
GTA 6 will initially launch on consoles, with no confirmed release date for PC. GTA Online on PC continues to attract a large player base, and Rockstar is unlikely to abandon that source of revenue.
