Haaland leads Norway into World Cup knockouts

Haaland Norway World Cup

On Monday, Erling Haaland once again put on an astounding performance in the World Cup as Norway beat Senegal 3-2 to advance to the knockout round.

Norway took the lead just before half-time with the substitute Marcus Holmgren Pedersen. Soon after the break, Haaland doubled their advantage with a superb finish.

The game was levelled with a calm goal from Ismaila Sarr for Senegal. But it wasn’t long before Haaland found the net again as Senegal’s efforts to control the ball failed, putting Norway up two goals again.

Sarr netted another late goal for a tight finish but Norway held on for the win.

The Manchester City forward has now scored four goals in his two appearances for the World Cup.

He has already added two goals in the last 4-1 triumph against Iraq.

Haaland’s recent goals bring his tally of international goals to 59 in 52 appearances for Norway.

Norway currently have a two-match winning streak at the World Cup for the first time in their history.

On Friday they will battle France for the first place in the group.

Senegal, on the other hand, is very close to being eliminated. They have to beat Iraq in their last group stage game and pray everything goes their way in other matches to give them a fighting chance at the tournament.

Norway dominated the game and capitalised on some Senegalese errors.

Senegal’s Edouard Mendy was the goalkeeper, making some key saves, but their defence made some mistakes that helped Haaland and Norway score the goals.

The win has confirmed that Norway will be moving to the knockout stages and now Senegal must win the next game to stay alive.
