Pakistan’s Reality TV Boom

Pakistan’s Got Talent is one of two major reality projects currently in development at Pixel Entertainment. The company also recently opened auditions for Rap Icon Pakistan, a first-of-its-kind rap competition with Talha Anjum and Bohemia confirmed as judges expected to air around Eidul Fitr.

Pixel Entertainment previously produced the second season of Masterchef Pakistan, a much-talked-about revival of the beloved cooking competition after an 11-year break, which wrapped up with a grand finale on February 9. The company also brought Shark Tank Pakistan to local audiences.

Elsewhere on the reality TV landscape, Pakistan Idol is also making a comeback produced by a separate house and is currently airing online and across several TV channels, though not without its share of controversy surrounding its judges, music rights, and production practices.

With international formats leading the charge, reality television is clearly having its defining moment in Pakistan and Pakistan’s Got Talent looks poised to be its biggest chapter yet.
