Haris Khokhar, the husband of Dr Nabiha Ali Khan, has denied the claims made by the psychologist and social activist. He said that he did not physically abuse her and claimed that he was the one who faced emotional stress during their marriage.
He said that there was no physical violence against Dr Nabiha. He also claimed that he was under mental pressure during the relationship. According to him, he was asked to sign a document saying he would not live with his family or stay in contact with them.
Khokhar rejected all the allegations against him. He said he was relieved that the marriage had ended and hoped to recover and improve his health.
The matter became public after Dr Nabiha filed for khula in a family court to end the marriage.
In court documents and public statements, Dr Nabiha accused Khokhar of physical and emotional abuse, verbal mistreatment and inappropriate behaviour.
She asked the court to dissolve the marriage because she said the relationship could no longer continue. The allegations have not been independently confirmed, and Khokhar has denied them.
Dr Nabiha files for Khula
After filing for khula, Dr Nabiha shared a video on Facebook showing herself signing the legal documents.
In the video, she said she hoped other women would never face the same problems in their marriages. She also spoke about the importance of respect, dignity and emotional well-being.
The couple received a lot of public attention after Dr Nabiha announced their engagement and marriage last year.
In his response, Khokhar said he was tired of the repeated public discussion about their marriage.
He also mentioned Dr Nabiha‘s appearance on a television show hosted by Fiza Ali where she became emotional while talking about her personal life.
He referred to another interview in which she laughed while answering a question about the worst decision of her life and said she called her marriage that decision.
Khokhar said he was exhausted by the ongoing public attention and the controversies surrounding their relationship.
