Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 20% of his match fee for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct. The incident occurred during Pakistan’s ODI tri-series match against England on Sunday. The ICC confirmed the disciplinary action in a media release on Wednesday. Rauf also received one demerit point for his conduct during the match. The decision followed an incident in the 46th over. Rauf appealed for a wide from the non-striker’s end, but the appeal was rejected. He then argued with England all-rounder Will Jacks. According to the ICC, Rauf continued the argument despite a warning from on-field umpire Sharfuddoula. He also raised his bat in frustration.

Why was Haris Rauf Penalised?

The ICC found Rauf guilty of a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of its Code of Conduct. This provision covers conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. The incident resulted in a 20% deduction from his match fee. The ICC also added one demerit point to his disciplinary record. This was Rauf’s third offence within a 24-month period. His total number of demerit points has now reached five.

Rauf accepted the offence and the proposed sanctions from match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel. Therefore, the case did not require a formal hearing. The incident highlights the ICC’s expectations regarding player behaviour and respect for match officials. Players must follow these standards even during tense moments on the field.

Pakistan secure one-wicket victory

Despite the disciplinary incident, Pakistan secured a thrilling one-wicket victory over England. Rauf contributed seven runs from 19 balls during the chase. Shadab Khan also played a key role with a century. His batting effort helped Pakistan reach the target in a closely contested match. The result gave Pakistan an important win in the ODI tri-series. However, Rauf’s penalty became a major talking point after the game.

England also receive a penalty

England faced disciplinary action for a separate offence during the same match. The team received a fine of 15% of its match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate. The ICC found England three overs short of the required rate at the allocated time. Captain Harry Brook accepted the offence and the proposed sanction. The penalties against both teams underline the importance of discipline and compliance with ICC regulations. The governing body applies its Code of Conduct to maintain fair play and professional standards. The case of Haris Rauf penalised for breach of ICC Code of Conduct in tri-series match against England adds another disciplinary incident to the tournament. His record now carries five demerit points, following his latest offence.
