The National Emergency Operations Centre of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert forecasting rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and hail across various parts of the country over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the agency, bad weather is expected in several cities across Punjab, including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin. Rain and strong winds are also forecast for various districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
The report further states that rain is also likely in parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, and Pishin. Thunderstorms have also been predicted in various areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The NDMA alert warns that hail and lightning in some areas may damage weak structures, trees, power lines, and standing crops. The rainfall may also cause slippery roads and disrupt traffic flow.
The NDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, drive carefully, and follow weather updates and official instructions. Tourists and travellers are also urged to check the weather and road conditions before travelling to northern areas.
The agency has instructed all provincial and district administrations to remain alert and take preventive measures to handle any possible emergencies.
