The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced a major increase in salaries for university teachers working under the Tenure Track System (TTS).
Reportedly, the changes cover professors, associate professors and assistant professors working under TTS.
Professors will receive a minimum monthly salary of Rs407,220, while their maximum salary can reach Rs712,030.
Associate professors will receive between Rs357,810 and Rs645,610 per month.
For assistant professors, the new salary range has been fixed between Rs288,020 and Rs553,820 per month.
The revised pay scales will also apply to eligible teachers who were already employed up to June 30, 2026. Their salaries will be adjusted according to the new structure.
However, the notification states that universities will have to cover the full financial cost of these salary revisions from their own resources.
The Tenure Track System is designed to provide university faculty with performance career and salary opportunities. HEC documents describe TTS as an incentive based system intended to encourage research, including quality publications, research grants and supervision of PhD students.
HEC had already been considering changes to TTS salaries. Earlier in 2026, committees of vice chancellors discussed a strategic revision of TTS salaries to retain qualified university faculty.
HEC delays post-PhD experience requirement
HEC has also provided temporary relief to university teachers appointed under the Basic Pay Scale (BPS) system.
The requirement for professors to have eight years of post-PhD experience and associate professors to have four years of post-PhD experience has been postponed until December 31, 2026.
Faculty members will have additional time before the experience condition becomes compulsory.
However, HEC has stated that there will be no further extension after the December deadline. The post-PhD experience requirements are expected to be enforced from January 1, 2027.
HEC research grants
Previously, the Sindh Higher Education Commission opened research grants of up to Rs5 million (50 lac).
Under the Sindh Research Support Programme (SRSP), faculty members from public sector universities and degree-awarding institutes across Sindh can apply. The grant will be provided for two years, and the deadline for applications is October 23, 2026.
