HEC approves dual-degree system: all details here

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to introduce dual and joint-degree programmes in universities across Pakistan, according to the reports on Friday.

According to the HEC officials, students will now be allowed to study two different degree programmes at the same time. It will not be needed for both degrees to be from the same department or subject area.

Officials further said that the joint-degree programmes have been approved. Under this new system, students will be able to complete part of their degree at one university and the remaining part at another university.

The HEC has also said that the universities will need to sign an approved memorandum of understanding (MoU) before starting joint-degree programmes. This is to make sure that there is a proper coordination between institutions.

Students will also be able to earn joint degrees through partnerships between Pakistani universities and foreign universities.

The HEC has said that this step will help improve higher education and give students more learning options.

Further, the commission also said that these programmes are part of efforts to expand academic opportunities and increase education standards in the country.

Separately, the Karachi University Teachers’ Association announced a boycott of semester exams scheduled to begin on May 5 at the University of Karachi.

The teachers said they will not conduct exams until their demands are met.

HEC announces scholarships

Students from Pakistan will now have the chance to study at some of the world’s most prestigious universities in the United States (US). You can avail the opportunity of a fully-funded doctoral scholarship under the US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Programme announced by the HEC.

The official statement posted recently reveals the scheme is aimed at admission to universities in the top 100 QS World University Rankings.

Candidates admitted to universities between 51 and 100 in the rankings will receive some financial assistance with tuition fees, up to $12,000 annually. Additionally, a stipend and health insurance will also be provided.
