A high-level meeting on the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has begun at the President’s House.

According to reports, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, key federal ministers and security officials are attending the meeting.

A proposal to impose an emergency in 12 districts, including the merged districts, is also under consideration.

The meeting is also considering the use of key federal powers to ensure public safety in KP. Various options under Articles 232 to 234 of the Constitution are also expected to be discussed.

Important decisions regarding Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to be approved during the meeting.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing criticism on social media after their failed long march. According to critics on social media, the long march failed to attract the public response expected by the party.

PM Shehbaz holds talks with Maulana Fazlur Rehman over KP situation

Earlier, PM Shehbaz held a telephone conversation with Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to discuss ways to ease tensions between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Shehbaz invited him for talks at the Prime Minister’s House.

“Maulana Fazlur Rehman accepted the prime minister’s invitation, and the meeting is expected to take place soon,” the statement read.

Before the long march began, the federal government also held talks with PTI leaders to discuss the situation. However, the KP government reportedly refused to take action against terrorism in the province and opposed the federal government’s counterterrorism policy.
