The Anti-Corruption Unit of the International Cricket Council has launched investigations into alleged corruption cases in Cricket Canada.
According to reports, the investigations are continuing on two different aspects, one of which includes the match between Canada and New Zealand during the recent men’s T20 World Cup.
This revelation was made in the Canadian programme The Fifth Estate documentary, Corruption, Crime and Cricket.
According to the documentary, one over in this match is being considered suspicious in which captain Dilpreet Bajwa bowled unusually and conceded extra runs.
On the other hand, an audio recording is also under investigation in which former coach Khuram Chohan claimed that board officials put pressure on team selection.
Former coach Pubudu Dassanayake also made similar allegations, saying that he was forced to include specific players and was threatened with termination of employment if he refused.
Furthermore, Cricket Canada has also been facing issues such as an administrative crisis, financial problems, and delays in players’ payments.
Anti-corruption officials said that they cannot comment on these matters; however, investigations will continue wherever the integrity of the sport is under threat.
Recently a Pakistani player also faced the International Cricket Council (ICC) penalty for Code of Conduct violation.
After the investigation Salman Agha was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The article relates to abuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment, clothing, fixtures and fittings during an international match.
This happened in a match between Bangladesh and Pakistan. In the 39th over of Pakistan’s innings, Bangladesh’s skipper bowled a falter delivery which was nudged back by Mohammad Rizwan.
Salman Agha was stationed at the non-striker’s end and the ball rolled and spun directly at him. It was attempted by the Pakistani all-rounder to attempt to dodge the ball. However, the ball was intercepted by Miraz.
