The Indian Premier League (IPL) has once again become the centre of attention due to alleged corruption allegations.
A sting operation by the Special Investigation Team of Indian investigative organization Tehelka has claimed that during IPL 2025, information regarding the playing XIs of teams was allegedly passed on to bookmakers based in London.
The report named former first-class cricketer Rachit Bhatia, who allegedly admitted to receiving Rs60 million per match in exchange for providing information related to the Chennai Super Kings team.
The former cricketer informed reporters about match-fixing activities and his role in them last December.
According to Tehelka, this information was allegedly sent to bookies in London through Snapchat, and approximately Rs30 million was reportedly earned from five matches.
The report claimed that the player providing the information was a young wicketkeeper-batter, who was later identified by cricket journalist Prateesh Haldar on X as Vansh Bedi.
Bedi was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for Rs5.5 million in the IPL 2025 auction.
Tehelka’s report also included an alleged claim by Bhatia regarding spot-fixing in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
The cricketer admitted that he deliberately bowled two wides in exchange for money from bookmakers. Rs800,000 was agreed for one wide, while a bribe was also allegedly paid to secure a place in a team in the Ranji Trophy.
Later, alleged activities also expanded to the Delhi Premier League, where an amount of Rs4 million per match was reportedly mentioned in exchange for information about the playing XI.
The BCCI has so far not issued an official response to the allegations.
