Iran-US deal to be called 'Islamabad Agreement': media reports

According to reports by the prominent news media company of the United States (US), Axios, today, the deal between the US and Iran will be called the “Islamabad Agreement.”

The US and Iran have agreed on the wording of a deal that would extend their ceasefire for 60 days, according to the reports.

According to Axios, the agreement will be called the “Islamabad Agreement” once it is officially signed. This name is linked to the role of Pakistan in helping bring both sides together for talks.

The deal has not been signed yet. Officials from both countries have agreed on the text. But final approval is still needed from top leaders in Washington and Tehran.

Reports say that a signing ceremony is being planned in Geneva. US Vice President JD Vance may travel there for the event.

‘Islamabad MoU nearing finalisation,’ Abbas Araghchi

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is closer than ever to being finalised, signalling progress in ongoing diplomatic discussions.

In a statement shared on social media, Araghchi urged the media to avoid speculation regarding the contents of the agreement until it is formally concluded.

Iranian Foreign Minister further emphasised that premature reporting or assumptions could misrepresent the nature of the understanding that is being developed between the parties.

Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to transparency and responsible diplomacy, the minister said that all details of the MoU will be made public in due course once the process is complete.

Trump calls off planned strikes on Iran

US President Donald Trump said yesterday that he had called off planned US military strikes on Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening.”

He further added, “Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others. The Naval Blockade will remain in full force and effect until this Transaction is finalized — Time and place of the signing to be announced shortly.”
