Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed officials on Tuesday to speed up development work in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave.
He has also called for better security and improved facilities for diplomats and residents living in the area.
What development work is underway?
Naqvi visited the Diplomatic Enclave to inspect the ongoing projects. He also reviewed work on the boundary wall, security checkpoints, cycling track and walking track.
The minister told officials to keep work on the boundary wall going without delays. He also ordered that no trees should be cut during the construction work.
Naqvi also said that the cycling and walking tracks should be built according to modern standards.
Further, he directed officials to widen roads in the area. This will help to improve the flow of traffic and make movement easier.
What is the new security plan for Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave?
Naqvi asked the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Security to prepare a new security plan for the Diplomatic Enclave.
He said that the plan should be based on the current security needs of the area. The minister also ordered the restoration and improvement of parks in the enclave.
He said that the government wants to make the area safer and better managed with improved roads, parks and other public facilities.
During the visit, the CDA chairman briefed Naqvi on the ongoing projects. He also shared details about project timelines and future plans.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
Islamabad Police officers to get housing in Diplomatic Enclave?
Previously, it was announced that the government would build residential housing for Islamabad Police officers in the Diplomatic Enclave. The project is estimated to cost Rs1.3516 billion.
According to Jang, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has now invited construction companies to submit bids for the project.
The deadline for submitting bids is July 16. The project is expected to be completed within one year.
The CDA has already provided land for the housing scheme. The project is officially called the Government Officers Residence (GOR) project.
The CDA’s Procurement and Contract Directorate has started the bidding process for the construction work.
