Background to the security measures
The move comes amid heightened regional tensions following reports of the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatullah Khamenei in strikes conducted by the United States and Israel.
The reported assassination has led to strong reactions across several countries, including Pakistan.
In Islamabad, security has been tightened around key government buildings, diplomatic missions and sensitive installations.
The Red Zone houses important state institutions, foreign embassies and Parliament, making it a focal point during periods of political or regional unrest.
Officials have not announced how long the restrictions will remain in place, but said the decision was taken as a precautionary step given the current situation.
Authorities have urged residents to stay updated through official channels and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
