IRGC says ‘most intense’ offensive on Israel, US bases to begin shortly: reports

IRGC has announced the start of what it called ‘the most devastating offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran,’ according to reports.

According to a statement reported by Iran’s Fars news agency, the offensive is set to begin “in just moments.” The IRGC said the attacks will focus on the “occupied territories and American terrorist bases” in the region.

IRGC ‘vows revenge’

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has reacted to reports of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s martyrdom.

In a statement carried by Fars news agency, it said, “we have lost a great leader and we mourn him.”

The statement said that Khamenei’s ‘martyrdom at the hands of the most vicious terrorists and executioners of humanity is a sign of the legitimacy of this great leader and the acceptance of his sincere services.’

It also said that the “Iranian nation’s hand of revenge…will not let them go.”

The IRGC added that it will stand ‘firm in confronting domestic and foreign conspiracies.’

Trump further added that, ‘this is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans, and those people from many Countries throughout the World, that have been killed or mutilated by Khamenei and his gang of bloodthirsty THUGS.’

UN Security Council emergency meeting underway

The UN panel has held an emergency meeting following US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which Iran has responded to with strikes in several regional countries.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that military action risks triggering uncontrollable events in the region. He also noted that about 20 cities in Iran have been hit.

He mentioned reports of Iranian leaders being killed but said he could not confirm them independently.

Guterres called for de-escalation. He called for an immediate stop to hostilities and urged all parties to return to negotiations to avoid a wider conflict that could harm civilians and regional stability.

‘Most of them are gone’: Trump

Speaking to NBC, he stated that “a large amount of leadership” had been killed in Iran in today’s strikes.

“I don’t mean like two people,” he further added without specifying a number.

Iranian Revolutionary Guards claim hundreds of soldiers killed

A spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said the attacks were carried out in response to the killing of their senior military commanders.

Iranian Foreign Minister (FM) Seyed Abbas Araghchi has shared a picture of a girls’ school destroyed by Israel.

“The destroyed building is a primary school for girls in the south of Iran. It was bombed in broad daylight, when packed with young pupils. Dozens of innocent children have been murdered at this site alone”, he said.

Warning Israel, he said, “these crimes against the Iranian People will not go unanswered.”

According to reports, the attack killed 53 students.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has offered condolences to the family of a Pakistani national who lost his life following an Iranian missile strike, reports Khaleej Times.

The UAE expressed its full solidarity with the family, emphasising that targeting civilians and civilian objects is condemned and rejected under all legal and humanitarian standards.

At least one person has been killed in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, after several missiles launched from Iran were intercepted, according to the country’s state news agency.

Israel confirms attack

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz claimed Israel launched the missile attack in order to “remove threats to the State of Israel”.

US-Israel joint operation

A United States official told international media outlet Al Jazeera that the attacks were carried out as a joint military operation between Israel and the US, which has assembled a vast fleet of fighter jets and warships in the region to try to pressure Iran into a deal over its nuclear programme.

The strike in Iran’s capital happened near the offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, The Associated Press news agency reported.

However, Reuters reported that Khamenei is not in Tehran and has been transferred to a secure location.

Israel on alert

As sirens sounded and a state of emergency was declared in Israel, the Israeli military said it had issued a “proactive alert to prepare the public for the possibility of missiles being launched toward the state of Israel.”

Israel’s Airports Authority announced airspace had been closed to all civilian flights and urged the public not to come to the airport.

US Embassy in Qatar
