Karachi gets two rebuilt fire stations

Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has opened two rebuilt fire stations in Gulistan i Jauhar and Bolton Market, according to reports today.

The new stations are part of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s plan to improve fire and rescue services across the city.

The two stations are expected to help firefighters respond more quickly in busy and crowded parts of the city.

They will also reduce the pressure on nearby stations that have been handling a large number of emergency calls.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mayor Wahab said the Gulistan i Jauhar Fire Station had remained closed for almost 30 years. It has now been restored and is fully ready to respond to emergencies.

He said the Gulshan Fire Station had previously covered both Gulshan i Iqbal and Gulistan i Jauhar.

This increased its workload and delayed response times. With the Gulistan i Jauhar station now working again, emergency calls will be shared between the two stations and firefighters will be able to reach people faster.

The mayor said the Sindh government is also supporting a larger project to improve Karachi’s firefighting system.

He said work is underway on a multi billion rupee plan to buy new fire engines, rescue vehicles, and modern firefighting equipment through an international bidding process.

The upgraded stations include large water storage tanks, solar power systems, better working facilities, and modern firefighting and rescue equipment.

Mayor Wahab said Karachi has faced many serious fires in recent years. He said these incidents showed the need for better equipment and stronger emergency services. He added that the city is taking practical steps to prepare for future emergencies.
