KARACHI: After heavy rain caused power outage and flooding in Karachi, more showers are expected to hit metropolis.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that Karachi and other cities of Sindh are likely to receive more rain today (Wednesday).
Rain is expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, and other areas as a weather system of low pressure comes in from India’s Gujarat in the Arabian Sea, the Met Office said.
Yesterday, Karachi recieved rain in several parts of Karachi till 8pm including Airport Old Area had received 33.7 millimetres of rain, followed by Sharea Faisal with 29mm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Meanwhile, Karachi traffic police issued multiple traffic updates.
Separately, a press release issued by the office of Karachi Additional Inspector General Javed Alam Odho said police teams were in the field to assist with ensuring the flow of traffic, guiding the public where water had accumulated and dealing with any untoward situation.
“People are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay at a distance from electricity poles and wires,” the press release said.
Yesterday, the Meteorological Department issued a second alert as cyclone approaches Karachi due to the low-pressure area over the Gulf of Khambhat and adjoining Gujarat (India).
According to the department, the system was located about 340 kilometers southeast of Karachi, near Saurashtra and Gujarat. It is likely to move west and southwest, and may emerge over the northeast Arabian Sea near the Gulf of Kutch by tonight or tomorrow morning.
Under its influence, rain started in Karachi’s Sher Shah, Baldia, Mauripur, and Hawks Bay areas.
