Important update for driving license applicants

Punjab Police brings driving license services to doorsteps

Punjab Police have continued strict enforcement measures against traffic law violations across the province, officials said.

According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Police, over 2.652 million driving licences have been issued to citizens this year. At the same time, 2,556,602 citizens were fined for traffic rule violations.

Official statistics show that an amount of more than Rs5.44 billion in fines were collected from the violators. Authorities also took action against over 30,000 smoke-emitting vehicles, while 5,358 vehicles were impounded at different police stations. In addition, fitness certificates of 28 vehicles were confiscated.

The Inspector General (IG) of Punjab has ordered officials to take further action against those who violate traffic law as well, and no leniency should be shown. He stressed such measures as the strict implementation of amended traffic laws, reforms, and modern systems of enforcement.

Currently, 127 Driving training schools are set throughout the province, training the citizens to be more disciplined on the roads. The IG Punjab has also issued instructions to SHOs and SDPOs to take effective measures to remove traffic congestion and avoid road accidents.

In addition, drastic measures have been issued to recover offending traffic fines from defaulters. Authorities believe these measures will help them improve the discipline on the road while reducing the number of accidents and traffic congestion throughout the province.

In a separate development, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launched a digital facility to speed up and make the procedure for obtaining a driving licence more convenient for the citizens.

The issuing process for learner licences for LTV and HTV transport vehicles has been fully digitised.

The system enables applicants to fill their applications online from home. It has been developed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board with administrative support of the Transport Director and the Transport and Mass Transit Department.

The service is available on the Dastak mobile application.

The citizens can download the app, enter their details and make the necessary payment online. After digital verification, the learner licence is issued in a short amount of time.

Officials said more services would in future be moved to the internet to promote e-governance and to reduce delays.

The initiative would aim to eliminate long queues and make legal procedures easier for the public.
