The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Higher Education Department has introduced a new student digital attendance system in degree colleges across the province, to allow parents to keep track of their children’s attendance through regular SMS alerts.
Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Local Government Meena Khan Afridi formally inaugurated the system at a ceremony held at a Government Degree College.
Representatives of Zong Telecom, teachers and students attended the event. The Secretary Higher Education and Director Higher Education were also present.
Parents to receive attendance updates
Parents will receive SMS notifications about their children’s attendance while staying at home. The messages will also provide information about classes missed by students.
The system is expected to make it easier for parents to monitor attendance without repeatedly contacting colleges. It could also help colleges maintain more accurate attendance records and identify students who are regularly absent.
The Higher Education Department has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zong Telecom to support the digital attendance initiative.
Meena Khan Afridi said the project is part of the department’s digital transformation programme. The provincial government is using technology to modernise the management of higher education institutions and improve their services.
The department has already introduced an e-transfer system. It has also launched a ranking system for universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
New measures for teachers and students
The minister also announced another measure for teachers working in remote parts of the province.
According to Afridi, the government is introducing a hard-area allowance to support teachers serving in difficult and remote locations. The measure provides additional support to staff working under challenging conditions.
Another development was announced for Government Degree College Peshawar. Meena Afridi said a modern hall would be constructed at the college to provide students with improved educational facilities.
