Lahore traffic police launches crackdown on underage and unlicensed drivers

Traffic police, on Sunday initiated a citywide operation in Lahore targeting underage and unlicensed drivers, declaring that strict measures would be enforced against those who violate traffic laws.

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi stated that vehicles and motorcycles operated by underage drivers would be confiscated and transported to police stations, in addition to the issuance of fines.

He mentioned that drivers of cars with learner permits or expired licenses in Lahore would face a penalty of Rs. 5,000, while motorcycle operators would be subject to a fine of Rs. 2,000 for similar violations.

Furthermore, action would also be taken against the practice of triple riding.

The CTO mentioned that commercial vehicles cannot be operated with a car or motorcycle licenses, indicating that a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) license is now required for buses, wagons, and other forms of public transport.

Drivers of trucks, trailers, and other heavy vehicles must hold a Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) license, he added.

Online services available for licensing in Lahore

He also mentioned that online services for obtaining learner permits, duplicate licenses, and renewing licenses are available for the convenience of the public.

According to the CTO, Lahore currently has 11 driving testing centers, two mobile vans, and 20 facilitation centers.

The CTO further warned that underage driving and operating a vehicle without a valid license would not be tolerated under any circumstances, and circle officers have been instructed to oversee the operation personally.

Shirazi indicated that all licensing offices in the city would remain operational despite the holiday, and special checkpoints have been established outside these offices to identify drivers lacking valid licenses.
