Lawrence Bishnoi gang issues death threat to top Punjabi singer, demands Rs10 crore

Bisnoi gand

The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has allegedly issued a death threat to a well-known Punjabi singer and music director, demanding Rs100 million (Rs10 crore) in extortion, a private media channel reported.

A close associate of B Praak, the popular singer behind hits like Mann Bharrya and Sari Duniya Jala Denge, received two missed calls from an international number on January 5, which were initially ignored. The following day, another call came from a different foreign number.

The caller identified himself as Arju Bishnoi, claiming to be a member of the gang, and instructed the associate to convey a threatening message to B Praak. The caller demanded Rs100 million within a week, warning that the singer could travel anywhere in the world, but anyone near him could be harmed. He added that failure to comply would result in B Praak being killed.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Authorities confirmed efforts are underway to trace the origin of the calls and identify those responsible.

B Praak is one of the most prominent figures in Punjabi and Hindi music, widely recognised for his chart-topping tracks and acclaimed contributions to the industry.

Journalist Omar Qureshi has strongly rebutted Raftaar TV’s “official statement” after an old clip from the channel resurfaced online, reigniting criticism over its anti-Pakistan commentary. In a detailed post on X, Qureshi wrote, “I saw the video on Twitter/X and it was tweeted by an Indian handle. The version that I tweeted was the version that was shared by the said handle – it was not ‘selectively edited.”

He categorically denied any pressure from an “Indian lobby” or government-linked sources, stressing the decision was entirely his own.

Qureshi further said in his tweet about Raftaar’s video, “Also, sorry to disappoint you but no Indian lobby, individual, journalist (I have many followers who are Indian journalists and friends) or anyone associated with the Govt of India made me tweet the clip, or sent it to me asking me to tweet the clip – the sharing was done entirely of my own volition and the reasons were mentioned in the initial tweet and so not bear worth repeating.”
