Consumers across the city are paying far more than the actual price for LPG. Sellers ignore rates fixed by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and continue overcharging without check and balance.
The government-fixed price for LPG stands at Rs254 per kilogram. However, in the open market, the same gas is being sold for between Rs370 and Rs420 per kilogram, a difference of Rs160 per kilogram. Consumers report that the high pricing has placed a heavy strain on domestic budgets. Meeting daily expenses has become increasingly difficult for the consumers due to the high cost of gas. Further, residents demand serious action against the different rates, they say such measures are necessary to provide relief to the public amid the ongoing price disparity. No response has yet been issued by regulatory authorities regarding the reported price violations.
However, previously, Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) launched a crackdown on those individuals and plants that were selling LPG at high prices.
According to the details, OGRA sealed six LPG plants for selling LPG at a high price in Rawalpindi.
The OGRA spokesperson said that the authority is taking strict action against different companies, dealers, and plants for violating rules and selling LPG at a high price across Pakistan.
OGRA showed commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and confirmed that the authority will not allow any individual or company to engage in illegal profiteering.
The spokesperson also stated that the authority will continue its crackdown against the corrupt LPG dealers and companies.
