Mahnoor Safdar’s million-dollar jewellery is reportedly a replica and not the original million-dollar Mouawad set.
According to earlier reports, the earrings and necklace worn by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s daughter were valued at USD 15 million, approximately PKR 4.15 billion (Rs450 crore), with some reports claiming the jewellery could be worth even more.
However, journalist Hassan Ayub has reportedly claimed that the jewellery seen in the photos differs from the original design, including differences in the number of diamond rows and other details.
He said the set appears to be a replica and suggested that lab-grown diamonds, zircon, or other stones may have been used instead.
Some reports have claimed that the necklace appears to closely resemble Anna Zuckerman’s Royal Carina Statement Necklace, which is listed at $1,800 (PKR 498,306).
The necklace and earrings could also have been custom-made, so the actual price cannot be officially confirmed. Therefore, it would be inaccurate to state any reported price as certain.
The yellow diamonds which are seen in Mahnoor Safdar’s jewellery are particularly valuable if they are natural fancy-colour diamonds.
Natural yellow diamonds are exceptionally rare, with roughly one natural coloured diamond found for every 10,000 colourless diamonds. Their distinctive yellow colour is caused by nitrogen atoms absorbing blue and violet light during the diamond’s formation deep within the Earth over billions of years.
The value of yellow diamonds does not increase in a straight line as the stone gets larger. Larger, intensely coloured yellow diamonds can cost exponentially more per carat because large rough stones with vivid, desirable colour are exceptionally scarce.
