Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has announced that the government has made a significant reduction in the fuel allowance of federal ministers.
The quota has been cut from 400 litres per month to 200 litres.
He further stated that if anyone has objections to the 200-litre fuel quota limit, it can be discussed, however, several facilities have already been curtailed and further reforms will continue in this regard.
He added that ministers’ privileges have already been significantly reduced under the austerity campaign, and further strict financial measures are now being adopted.
Azam Nazeer Tarar said the government aims to ensure better use of national resources in order to reduce unnecessary pressure on the national exchequer. He said the current policy is not only about cutting costs but also about promoting transparency and accountability within the government system.
He added that the government will continue to follow this policy in the future and will take further steps to reduce public expenditure.
Reduction in petrol price
On Friday, the government reduced the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre and diesel by Rs2 per litre with immediate effect.
Following the decrease, the price of petrol stands at Rs373.78 per litre and high-speed diesel (HSD) at Rs378.78.
Petrol is mostly used in private transport, small vehicles, rickshaws and two-wheelers and has a direct bearing on the budget of the middle and lower-middle class. HSD is mainly used in the heavy transport sector and for large generators.
The government has been revising petroleum prices every week on Friday night following the now-paused US-Israeli war on Iran, which began on February 28.
