A terrorist attack on Hassan Khel Police Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was successfully foiled due to security measures installed by the provincial police to protect police facilities from drone attacks.
According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Saeed, terrorists targeted the police station using a quadcopter drone carrying an explosive shell. However, the bomb failed to explode after getting caught in the iron mesh installed around the police station.
Police officials said the protective barriers prevented the explosive device from detonating, potentially averting a major incident. A Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) team has been called in to safely examine and defuse the unexploded bomb.
The incident highlights the importance of security arrangements introduced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police to counter emerging threats involving drones and quadcopters.
About a month ago, the provincial police had installed iron mesh at police stations and checkpoints across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to protect personnel and infrastructure against possible drone attacks.
The measure was introduced in response to growing security concerns, as the mesh barriers are intended to minimise damage by preventing explosive devices from directly striking buildings and sensitive installations.
Police officials have not yet shared further details about the attackers or any possible casualties.
