New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has revealed that he received only half of his expected Indian Premier League (IPL) payment during his time in the tournament, a situation he says left him disappointed.
Speaking in an interview, Santner said he was ruled out of the IPL due to a shoulder injury. According to him, the Mumbai Indians did not pay him the full contract amount of 20 million Indian rupees but only half of it as compensation.
Santner said he was particularly upset about receiving reduced payment, especially as he was injured while playing in the tournament.
He added that he missed his first match of the IPL due to the birth of his second child. After returning, he played a match against Delhi, where he suffered a shoulder injury. Although he returned a week later, the injury recurred, forcing him to return home.
According to Santner, his shoulder was injured twice within two weeks, and he felt he was putting too much strain on his body.
He said he initially expected a recovery period of about eight weeks, but he recovered in four weeks and returned to the national team. He also noted that after his quick recovery, different claims were being made about him in the media.
Santner joined the New Zealand team a week before the first Test against England after recovering from a shoulder injury.
He played five matches for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and was officially ruled out of the tournament on April 27.
According to IPL rules, players who are injured during the tournament are generally compensated based on the terms agreed upon at the time of the auction.
Indian media reports suggest that Mumbai Indians have not yet issued an official response to Santner’s comments regarding the partial payment.
