The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an important message regarding iris scanning. A spokesperson for NADRA has urged citizens to secure their own and their children’s identity by getting an iris scan done, free of charge, at any NADRA office.
Why is iris scanning important?
The message emphasises that iris scanning is important for securing identity information.
Where can you get iris scanning done?
The facility is available at all NADRA offices. Citizens have been encouraged to visit their nearest NADRA office today with their family members and children aged three years or older to get the scan done.
What is an iris scan?
An iris scan serves as a third component of biometric identification, designed to make the identification of citizens more secure and authentic.
For the convenience of the public, NADRA is providing this iris scanning service completely free of cost.
Is iris scanning mandatory for Pakistanis?
An iris scan is not universally mandatory for all adult citizens obtaining a standard CNIC in Pakistan.
However, it is mandatory for children aged 3 to 18 when applying for or updating a B-Form, which is the child registration certificate, or minor identity documents at NADRA centres.
Previously, NADRA also cautioned overseas Pakistanis against sharing their personal information with unauthorised individuals or organisations falsely claiming to represent the authority.
In an advisory, NADRA clarified that it has not authorised any consultants, agents or dealers to process identity documents or submit online applications on its behalf.
Sindh links all education boards with NADRA
Recently, Sindh became the first province in Pakistan to connect all its educational boards with NADRA.
The provincial government has signed an agreement with NADRA to link all Sindh education boards to its digital system.
The signing ceremony was attended by Provincial Minister for Universities Ismail Rahoo, NADRA’s Director General (DG) and chairmen of the educational boards.
