The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 273 people during a raid on a call centre on Shahrah-e-Faisal in Karachi.
According to reports, the raid took place on Tuesday night. The call centre had more than 250 workers, including young men and women.
During the operation, officials seized 339 laptops, 152 mobile phones and four CPUs.
What was happening inside the call centre?
Investigators found that the call centre had been running for several years. It had also faced a raid in 2025.
A case was registered against its owners and management at that time. However, the workers were released.
Reports said the management later restarted its operations and hired underage boys and girls.
Around 42 workers reportedly did not have national identity cards. However, they could speak English well and allegedly used their language skills to target people in the United States.
The suspects reportedly offered credit card deals and loans with low interest rates. They mainly targeted retired people.
Through these offers, they allegedly collected private credit card and bank account details and used them to carry out financial fraud.
How did the alleged scam work?
According to the investigation, workers were given daily targets of 15 to 20 people. The call centre was allegedly involved in a financial scam worth billions of dollars over more than a year.
Investigators also found signs of a wider network. It reportedly involved merchants and hawala and hundi operators who helped transfer money linked to the fraud to Pakistan and other people involved.
NCCIA officials said this time the agency had arrested employees as well as those involved in running the call centre. In earlier raids, action was mainly taken against owners and management.
Officials also said some workers released during previous operations had joined other call centres involved in similar activities.
