The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has warned citizens against fraudulent e-challan messages, cautioning that clicking on suspicious links could expose their bank accounts to cybercriminals and result in financial losses. Citizens have been advised to verify e-challan notifications through official channels and avoid clicking on links received from untrusted sources to protect their financial information and prevent online fraud.
It is worth mentioning here that Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in the past month had issued a public warning about fraudulent e-challan messages, urging citizens to remain cautious and protect their personal and financial information from cybercriminals. According to the police, scammers are using fake websites, misleading links, and fraudulent SMS and WhatsApp messages to trick people into disclosing sensitive information under the guise of official traffic challan notifications.
The ITP has advised citizens to avoid clicking on suspicious or unverified links, even when messages appear to originate from government departments. Such scams may be designed to steal sensitive data, including Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) numbers, bank account details, and online payment credentials. The traffic police have also urged citizens who receive suspicious e-challan messages to report them to the Islamabad Traffic Police or the relevant cybercrime authorities for investigation and necessary action.
Citizens have been advised to check their e-challan status exclusively through official government platforms and refrain from sharing personal or financial details on unverified websites. The advisory aims to raise public awareness about online scams and encourage people to take precautionary measures to prevent financial losses and identity theft.
