The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned on Monday that water levels in Pakistan’s major rivers may rise until August 4. It has also warned of possible flooding and flash floods in several parts of the country.
The NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) said that the alert covers the period from August 2 to August 4.
High-level flooding recorded
According to the NDMA, high-level flooding has been recorded in the Lehri River at Head Gogi. Medium-level flooding has also been reported in Nullah Palkhu at Wazirabad.
Low-level flooding continues
According to the details, low-level flooding also continues at Kalabagh, Chashma, Guddu and Sukkur on the Indus River. Low-level flooding has also been reported at Head Nari on the Nari River.
The NDMA said high water levels are expected at Marala on the Chenab River. Low to medium water flows are also expected at Khanki and Qadirabad.
Water levels are likely to increase in the Jhelum, Ravi and Kabul rivers and their smaller streams. Medium to high water flows are also expected in streams connected to the Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi rivers.
The authority said that the water situation in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers will also depend on the amount of water released from Indian reservoirs.
Lahore rain today
Earlier today, the weather became pleasant after rain in various areas of Lahore, and moderate to heavy rain was recorded in many areas.
According to the data, 54 mm of rain was recorded in Gulberg and 55.4 mm in Shadipora, which was the highest in the city. Similarly, 49.6 mm was recorded in Mughalpura, 42.6 mm in Manawan, 34.2 mm in Tajpura, 19.8 mm in Farrukhabad, 19.2 mm in Kahna and 15.6 mm in Chowk Nakhda.
According to the Meteorological Department, 12.8 mm was recorded in Johar Town, 12.2 mm in Nishtar Town, 9.2 mm in Sagian, 4.4 mm in Iqbal Town, 3.8 mm in Gulshan Ravi, 3.2 mm in Pani Wala Talab, while 3 mm of rain was recorded on Jail Road.
