The Excise and Taxation Department Islamabad has further extended the deadline for mandatory installation of M-Tags on motorcycles till March 5 to give more time to citizens to complete the process before enforcement action.
Officials said there are few days left before strict implementation begins urging citizens to install M-Tags at the earliest, so that they will not face inconvenience. Director General Excise Irfan Memon said the extension was given as to ease the public and ensure broader compliance in federal capital.
Authorities said M-Tag installation is compulsory for motorcycles as well as cars to control under the government’s digital registration and monitoring system to improve traffic management and approved record keeping.
To deal with increased demand in lead up to Ramzan the department has brought some changes in the working hours of installation centres. Selected facilities will now be operated on 24-hour, 12-hour and 8-hour shifts. Sector 26 and Phulgran Toll Plaza centres shall be functional round the clock and others will operate for longer durations during daytime.
Installation services will be available at F-9 and G-14 police checkpoint from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Centres at Faizabad Interchange, Gulberg Greens and Milpur working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m while additional centres including near Sabzi Mandi police station and Daman-e-Koh will remain open until evening.
According to official data, up to date M-Tags have been installed on 8928 motorcycles which includes 2069 installations in the past 24 hours. In total 238,080 tags have issued against vehicles in Islamabad.
Officials said all resources available are being used to expedite the process and appealed to residents to cooperate in the process by getting installations done before the March 5 deadline.
The M-tag will be issued within minutes and affixed to the motorcycle on the spot. The fee for the M-tag has been set at Rs250.
