Former Pakistan Television (PTV) newscaster and renowned social figure Jehan Ara Moeen has passed away in the federal capital, Islamabad. Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief and condolences from the country’s journalism, social, academic, and literary communities.
Jehan Ara Moeen began her professional career with Pakistan Television (PTV) News in 1973. She initially established herself in the field of English-language news background commentary before becoming one of PTV’s leading newscasters.
She served the national broadcaster for 26 years, remaining with PTV until her retirement in 1999. Throughout her broadcasting career, Jehan Ara Moeen earned widespread respect for her clear diction, dignified presentation, professional approach, and deep understanding of national and international current affairs.
Earlier, another very popular internationally known Pakistani chef, Zakir Hussain, passed away in Karachi on April 22 at the age of 58, his family confirmed.
According to his family, Chef Zakir had been suffering from a kidney disease for some time and was receiving regular dialysis.
His nephew, Shayan, said that he had been getting treatment in the United States. But he returned to Pakistan about a month before his death after doctors said his condition could no longer be treated.
Chef Zakir was one of Pakistan’s most famous chefs and was loved by millions through his television cooking shows.
He became popular for teaching simple and traditional Pakistani recipes that inspired home cooks across the country.
His funeral prayers were offered after Asr at Jamia Rashidia in Saudabad, Karachi, as per the reports. After his death, his fans, fellow chefs, and members of the hospitality industry paid tribute to his contributions to Pakistani cuisine.
