Pakistani actress and host Nida Yasir’s daughter Sila Yasir has spoken out against people who record and share videos of her mother and family without asking for permission.
Sila shared her experience from a recent event on her Instagram Story. She said almost every brand at the event recorded her mother without asking first.
Sila Yasir calls for permission before filming
Sila Yasir said being a public figure does not mean a person can be recorded without consent.
“Being a public figure does not give anyone the right to record us without our consent or post videos of us without permission,” she wrote.
She said that brands often make content for their social media pages. However, they should ask before filming someone.
“I went to Locate this year and honestly had one of the worst experiences when it came to this. Almost every brand we went to filmed my mom without her consent. To an extent, I understand that brands create content for their own pages, but even then, asking for consent should be normalised,” she added.
She also criticised people who record her family while they are eating. She said some of these videos are later shared on social media with inappropriate captions.
“But when random people are recording us while we’re literally sitting and eating, and then posting it with a derogatory caption, that is something I will not tolerate. Being in public does not mean you lose your right to privacy or basic respect. We were simply trying to enjoy our time, and that should be respected,” she wrote.
Syla stressed that people should respect her family’s privacy and ask for permission before recording or sharing their videos.
