Punjab University athletes deliver outstanding performance
Representing Pakistan, athletes Abdur Rehman and Zarq Khan from Punjab University showcased exceptional performance in the 1-Minute Sprint Event of the World Rowing Indoor Virtual Championship, achieving significant milestones in the Under-21 Men categories. Gold Medal – 21-22 Lightweight Men (1 Minute).
Muhammad Abdul Rehman (Pakistan) achieved 1st place with an impressive distance of 377 meters, surpassing formidable competitors from France and Egypt.
According to the scoreboard, Luca Delval (France) recorded 374m, Youssef Abdelaziz (Egypt) also 374m, and Egor Marinov (AIN) 333m.
This gold medal underscores Pakistan’s increasing prominence in indoor rowing, especially in the lightweight division.
Silver Medal – 21-22 Men (Open Category, 1 Minute) In the Open 21-22 Men category, Zarq Khan (Pakistan) attained 2nd place with a strong performance of 385 meters.
The scoreboard indicates that Vladislav Andersons (Latvia) achieved 394m, Zarq Khan (Pakistan) 385m, Finn Söllner (Germany) 379m, Ivo Bouchal (Czech Republic) 377m, and Yi Ming Pan (China) 371m.
Pakistani athletes win gold and silver medals
Pakistan has secured one gold and one silver medal at the World Rowing Virtual Indoor Championships.
Abdul Rahman of Punjab University earned the gold medal in the lightweight category, while Punjab University’s Zarq Khan secured a silver medal in the open weight category.
In the lightweight division, Abdul Rahman from Punjab University secured the first place, with France finishing in second and Egypt in third.
In the open weight category, Latvia achieved the first position, while Zarq Khan from Pakistan Punjab University claimed the second position, and Germany took third place.
The virtual indoor competitions were conducted globally, with the Pakistan Rowing Federation participating from the Punjab University Sports Gymnasium at New Campus Lahore.
Pakistan Olympics Association officials extend support to PU athletes
Attending the World Indoor Rowing Championship event were Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali and Secretary of the Pakistan Olympics Association, Khalid Mehmood, who served as chief guests.
Additionally, PU Director of Sports Dr. Shabbir Sarwar, Hamdan Nazir, President of the Pakistan Rowing Federation, Rizwanul Haque Razi, Secretary of the Islamabad Olympic Association, Zaheer Ahmed, Secretary of the Pakistan Rowing Federation, Major Irfan, Secretary of the Pakistan Boxing Federation, and Abdul Rehman, coach of the Pakistan Rowing Team, were also present.
In a media interaction, Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali remarked that the first place achieved by Abdul Rehman from PU Law College and the second place by Zarq Khan from Hailey College in international competitions is excellent news and a significant success for the entire country and Punjab University.
